Overview

Calendar is a module that helps to manage important events and keep site visitors and other users updated.

Once the module is installed on your site and added to a page, it offers to choose one of the 2 available modes:

  1. Portal Calendar Mode (single portal calendar managed by an administrator and displayed to all users);
  2. User Calendar Mode (personal manageable calendar for the logged-in user).

After choosing one of the available options, the calendar will be displayed:

Available actions:

  • To add an event. To end an event, click on the button “add event” on the top of the module. As a result, the page “Event Properties” will appear:

Title: the name of the event that will be displayed in the calendar. It is a mandatory field. Description: the WYSIWYG editor allows to add the description of the planned events: text, images, external links, other multimedia.
Start/End Date: choose the start and end dates of the event. Make sure that the End Date doesn’t precede the Start Date.
Start/End Time: choose the start and end time of the event. Make sure that the End time doesn’t precede the Start Time.
All Day Event: check the box if the event is the whole day activity. If checked, Start/ End Time sections disappear.

  • To edit/delete an event

When some event is added, it is displayed in the calendar module.
To edit an event, click on it. As a result, a window will pop-up with the event details, as well as with links “Edit” and “Delete”. Hitting “Edit” will send you to Event Properties page described above. “Delete” will delete the chosen event.

 

Calendar Settings


Here are the module settings that you can configure:

DNN Calendar

AM/PM time format: the checked box sets the time format to AM/PM mode. If unchecked, it is 24 hour mode.

Show Weekends: if unchecked, the calendar displays the weekdays only from Monday to Friday.

Events Color: creates the color of events from the palette.

Start Week on: select the first day of the week to be displayed in the module.

Calendar Time Zone: choose your local time zone.

Date format: pick any format from 9 formats available.

View Modes: there are 3 modes available for viewing the module: day, week and month.

Default View Mode: select which view mode will be selected as default.

External Calendar: allows to import data from Google Calendar in XML format (Calendar should be set to “public”), retrieves the data from URL in the amount that is indicated in the external calendar settings. Events from more than one calendar may be added.

Here are step-by-step instructions of how to get necessary XML code to activate Google Calendar.

  1. Log in to your Google Calendar. Choose necessary calendar and hit on “Share this Calendar”:

  2. Make sure that you calendar is public:

  3. Hit on “Calendar Details” and copy XML code of your calendar:

  4. Paste this XML code to the settings of your Calendar (on a website):

  5. That's all.

 

You can also set the start and the end dates that are to be displayed by the Calendar module. Click “Module Settings” link -> Go to Module Settings page -> in the Advanced Settings section set the Start and the End Dates.
