DNN Comments module by Coding Staff is an ultimate solution to add review, feedback or commenting system to Dotnetnuke powered website. The module will help you to generate more interest from site’s visitors making it possible for them to participate in discussions and comments on the page’s contents. The module has multiple features and possibilities for customization including spam filter, rating system, gravatars and more.
Using module as discussion thread
You may use the DNN Comments module as a discussion thread element on your portal replying to the previous comments and forming a thread. The module works exactly the same as a regular forum thread.
- Click “Reply” on the comment you’d like to leave your response to in a comment field. Type in your response and click “Add comment”.
- You also can rate the previous comment you’re leaving the response to. Simply choose the rating you’d like to give from the drop down menu underneath the comment field. The rating feature can be switched off on the modules settings page if not required.

- Your comment will then be displayed as the last one in the thread.
- The module also displays the number of comments the thread includes.
Email notification template
The module allows modifying the notification message about a new comment posted.
The template is located on the module page settings. Go to the module settings page, scroll down to the “Email Template” section:

The email template is presented in HTML allowing you to modify the template users will receive once the new comment is posted.
In the very same section you may choose a person who will get a notification email about the new comment. You may choose the email receiver in the drop down menu as shown on the screenshot below.
Adding gravatar icon
In order to replace the default gravatar icon with the one you’d like to use, first go to www.gravatar.com and follow the steps suggested by the site. Once you have uploaded a gravatar picture either from the Internet or your hard drive (gravatar.com offers a few options), go to your DNN portal to discover your brand new avatar.

Auto-registration of anonymous users
The feature which can be found on the module settings page gives site admin to capture data of users even though they haven’t yet registered within the portal. As soon as an anonymous user leaves a comment, his or her details (name, contact email, website) get registered by the system and the user receives a “Registered user” role. Such user also receives an email notification with the portal access details.
The newly registered user gets listed on the portal as well where his or her data can be modified or deleted. The info is available at Admin-Users and looks like this
If you do not wish to register anonymous users switch off the feature on the module setting page by unchecking the corresponding box.
