Overview
FishEye is an eye candy flash DNN module that can serve as navigational menu or banner, DotNetNuke 3D gallery or as an external links’ display. See the details below to explore the module’s full range of options and capabilities.
Adding items to the module
As soon as you install the module on the page, let’s figure out how to add and manage items in it. Click “Manage Items” link and proceed to the next page.
- Click on the “Add new item” button.

- The form that appears next allows to indicate some accompanying item’s details such as: title, tooltip (aka help message), url the item can be linked to (note, that your link should start with http://).
- Use three next fields in order to add image graphics that the FishEye module will display. It’s possible to choose images that are already uploaded to the portal or upload them using the “Upload New File” link right there on the page. In order to see how to upload image files using FTP see below.
- Click “Add” as soon as you’re done item adding and editing. Items added will be displayed on the page in the form of a list one after another. If you’d like to rearrange the items click on the “Up” and “Down” arrows on the right. Click “Delete” and “Edit” to remove or modify items. “Add after” option enables to add new item that will follow the one you clicked on.
- Click “Go back” to appreciate the results of your editing.
FishEye Settings
The module has more settings in store which are worth checking out. Let’s go thought them one by one.

- Module width and height options are self-explanatory: alter width and height parameters of the module.
- Icon width and height are responsible for the size of the items the FishEye module contains.
- Max scaling option defines zooming limit for items in the module. The module allows setting this parameter from 1 to 5 and also accepts values such as 1.2 etc.
- Scale radius function is responsible for the dimension of the icon containing in the module. You may also say that this is a zooming option for the module items. The module allows setting this parameter from 1 to 100.
- Define how close or far your items going to be from each other by using the “Gap” field.
- Use two radio buttons in the “Orientation” section to put up the items in the module horizontally or vertically.
- Next set of options enable to modify the alignment settings for the items in the module.
- “Show title” option will display the title you set for the item. By checking this box another checkbox will appear. “Show title by hover” checkbox defines if the item’s title should be displayed all the time or only when hovering it.
- If you remember the first set of options when we were adding images to the module, we could attach a help message to it. Now you may decide whether to display it or not by checking the corresponding “Show Tooltip” checkbox. The tooltip will be displayed when hovering the item.
- Finally “Open in a new window” checkbox defines whether to open external links that are tied up to the module items in a new window or in the same one.
Adding images to the module via FTP
Let’s revert to the first set of options again when we were uploading image files. Let’s find out how to add image files via FTP server account in order to create a folder to store all images designated for this module in one place vs browsing multiple folders picking up the files you need to add.
- Login to your FTP portal account.
- The folder should be created at httpdocs – Portals- 0 -newfoldername. Then upload the required files into the newly created folder.
- After finishing the upload process, go to the Admin-File Manager page and click “Synchronize folders” and then “Synchronize files”.
- Finally proceed to the page where you add image files and choose the folder with the files you have just added from the drop down menu.
