Modules Installation
Both Main and Secondary modules are contained in one pack. Follow the steps below to install the News module to a DNN portal.

  • Log in to a DNN portal.
  • Proceed to the “Host - > Extentions” page.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “Install module” link.
  • On the next page click “Upload” and browse for the News module pack on your computer. Choose the pack and click “Open”.
  • Follow the steps offered by the installation wizard to run the installation.

After the installation is complete the module is going to be available for setup and use.

Main News Module

Adding items to the module

Read on to find out how to add items to the Main News module.

  • After choosing the module from the corresponding dropdown menu at the top of the page, both Main and Secondary News modules are going to be added. Remove the Secondary News module leaving the Main module on the page.
  • The module is not filled with items in the beginning. Click on the “Manage news” link to proceed to the page where news items should be added.
  • The next page is not yet filled with items either. Click on the “Add news” icon to add the very first module entry.
  • The fields on the next page should be filled out with corresponding information.

Title – provide your news item with a title.

Date – clicking on the field will activate a built-in calendar. Use the calendar to choose the item publish date observing the following date format – month / day / year. Chosen date can be modified manually as well.

Short item description – use a WYSYIWYG text editor to insert a short item description.

Long item description – use a WYSYIWYG text editor to insert full item text.

Click “Save news” in the bottom of the page to add the item to the module. Click “Cancel’ to abort the operation.

  • Repeat the steps to add more items.

Main news module features review

  • To make it easier for users to navigate through added news items they are divided into pages in the admin panel. First five items are displayed on one page while the next five will appear on the second page and so on.
  • In the admin panel each added item has” up / down” arrows in order to change the order of added items. “Edit” and “Delete” buttons correspondingly allow to either edit or delete added items from the module.
  • On the front-end added items are divided into pages as well. The number of items per page can be set on the “Settings” page of the Main News module.

  • Each news item includes title, date, short item description and the “Read more” link leading to the full article text. Individual article page contains item title, date, full article text and the “Back” link which returns users to the page with a news items list.

Secondary News Module

Installing and configuring the module

After choosing the module from the corresponding dropdown menu at the top and adding it to the page, both Main and Secondary News modules are going to be added. Remove the Main News module leaving the Secondary module on the page.

In order for the Secondary News module to display the latest news items we need to connect it with the Main module first

  • Click on the “Settings” icon of the Secondary News module.
  • On the next page scroll down to the bottom until you see the settings for the Secondary News module and the dropdown menu coming as the first available setting.

    The dropdown menu contains all Main News module instances installed on the portal. Choose the instance of the Main News module you would like to connect the Secondary News module with.

  • On the same page using the two fields underneath the dropdown menu indicate how many items the module should display as well as how many items per page should be displayed by the module.

  • Click “Update’ to save the settings.
  • The Secondary News module now displays an indicated number of latest items pulled from the Main News module chosen in the settings.

Secondary news module features review

  • Each item in the Secondary module consists of title, date, short description and the “Read more” link.
  • The module includes the “See all news” link which directs users to the page with the Main News module.
  • The module will be updated with new items automatically as the Main News module is added more news items to.
