Overview
Creating a video gallery sounds like a great idea, but may look like a hard one to implement. Coding Staff have created a video gallery module that doesn’t require any special computer knowledge to install and use. The module includes everything needed for a user to build a Youtube like video channel with multiple extra features to choose from in a matter of a few minutes.

Adding a video to a gallery

  • In the navigation menu go to Host – Host Settings – Advanced Settings – Other Settings and locate “File Upload Extensions” field. Add “.flv” and “.mp4” extensions to the list. Note there should be no blank spaces between the files extension names or "dots" in before them.

  • Before uploading a video into the gallery, we need to add a video file to a portal first. There are three simple ways you can go:

a)

  • Go to Admin – File manager page. Choose the folder you want to upload a file to and click the “Upload” button. Don’t forget that only “.flv” and “.mp4” video formats are supported. 8 MB is the maximum file size you can upload using this method. We’d recommend creating a special folder to store all your module videos there via FTP. Every time you need to add a video, you’ll know exactly where it stored at.
  • Once the video is uploaded, click “Synchronize files” for the module to recognize the uploaded video and display it together with other files.
  • Go to the page where the video gallery is located and click “Add Video”.
  • Select the folder the file is located at and choose the file to be added to the video gallery.  Add a custom icon for the video as well and clicks Save to store the settings.

b)

  • Access your DNN portal via FTP and create a folder necessary files will be uploaded to. The FTP client should be used in cases when the file is big.
  • The files you want to upload or the folder you need to create in FTP should go to the following path: httpdocs – Portals- 0-newfoldername.
  • Upload the required files into the created folder.
  • Go to Admin – File Manager, choose the folder with the files you want to upload and click “Synchronize folders” and then “Synchronize files”.

Adding HD videos

The module has been developed with popular HD videos in mind. We have already fond out how to add videos through the admin section and FTP, so let’s try to add a HD Youtube video via external source.
Go to the module Add video page and locate HD video field, choose add from external source. The video should be of a required HD resolution.
Add file description and image the way you did with regular videos, click save, return to the gallery to see the HD file in the gallery.

RSS video feed

The latest version of the module includes a though-after mRSS feature that provides module owners with the ability to generate media feeds and keep site visitors posted on latest video additions on your site.
In order to get an mRSS link or sign up for the media feed click on the RSS icon placed in the video description box.

Once clicked you’ll get redirected to an mRSS page which lists all video files Video Gallery module contains. Each video features a short description, external link where the video is located and a downloadable video file. If you’re using external links for your video gallery, the file link will be replaced by an external link with a video.
